About the Project
A connection to the Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System was identified as the preferred solution for Oneida Nation of the Thames to address water supply challenges. Engineering design has since been advanced for this transmission connection.
A separate, on-settlement project to address water distribution system improvements within Oneida Nation is being undertaken separately by Oneida Nation of Thames. Coordination of this off-settlement transmission main project is proceeding in parallel with the on-settlement project.

Project Status
- Tendering closed on February 12, 2026
- Tender award anticipated for early March 2026, to be followed by construction
What to Expect During Construction
- installation of water transmission main, valves and appurtenances with multiple construction crews at various locations, along the 21 km route within the municipal right-of-way
- one lane of traffic to be maintained at all times around construction work areas
- limited construction dewatering along portions of the route to permit construction
- construction of a connection facility near the Oneida Nation of the Thames settlement boundary, including a pre-engineered building
